Pre-K Disabilities (Pre-K/Grade 3)- State of Florida Teacher Certification Endorsement

This course sequence offers specialized training to work with young children with special needs or disabilities across a variety of education and care settings. By completing this course sequence, students are eligible for the State of Florida Pre-K Disabilities (Pre-K/Grade 3) Teacher Certification Endorsement.

This course sequence offers specialized training to work with young children with special needs or disabilities across a variety of education and care settings. By completing this course sequence, students are eligible for the State of Florida Pre-K Disabilities (Pre-K/Grade 3) Teacher Certification Endorsement. This concentration is based on these Accreditation Standards for Early Childhood: State of Florida Prekindergarten/Primary Education (Age 3) Through Grade Three (3) Specialization Competencies (PK/P); National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC); Educator Accomplished Practices: Florida Education Standards Commission (EAP); Subject Matter Content Standards for Florida's Teachers: ESOL; and, Florida's Early Intervention Professional Competencies (ITDS Appendix A).

By completing this area of concentration, students are eligible for the State of Florida Pre-Kindergarten Disabilities Endorsement (Pre-K/Grade 3). This endorsement may be added to an ESE teaching certificate as well as other teaching certifications. The four comprising the endorsement preparation are as follows:

Course Requirements for Pre-K Disabilities Endorsement

  • EEX 5015 Survey & Assessment Early Childhood Special Education
  • EEX 5017 Atypical Development Early Childhood ESE
  • EEX 5245 Methods in Early Childhood Special Education
  • EEX 5755 Family & Community Resources in Early Childhood Special Education

Note: By completing one additional course, EEX 6707 Early Intervention Services, students would also be eligible to apply for the Department of Health/Early Steps Infant Toddler Developmental Specialist (ITDS) Certificate. Learn more here.
